Tavaramerkki
A tavaramerkki (trademark) is a sign that identifies your goods or services. Registration at PRH gives you exclusive rights for the goods and services listed in the application, if PRH accepts the mark.
A company name in the trade register is not the same right. A domain name is not the same right. You apply for a Finnish trademark in PRH’s electronic service. You log in with Suomi.fi identification. One application covers one version of the mark. If you have several logos, you file several applications.
The basic fee in 2026 is 250 euros for one Nice class of goods or services. Each extra class is 100 euros. The fee is paid when you file. PRH does not refund it if the application is later refused. After filing you cannot add goods or services to that application.
Search existing marks in PRH’s trademark database before you pay. Also check YTJ and Virre for company names.
An applicant established outside the EEA must use a representative. Others may file themselves.
Patents and design rights are separate PRH products with their own rules.
Practical advice
Write the list of goods and services carefully. That list defines the right.
Do not start printing packaging until you have at least searched for earlier marks.
For an EU-wide mark, the EUIPO process is separate from the Finnish application.
