Tilastokeskus
Tilastokeskus (Statistics Finland, stat.fi) produces most of Finland’s official statistics and coordinates official statistics made by other agencies. Free tables cover population, prices, wages, housing, traffic, tourism, energy and enterprises. Many series are available by municipality, wellbeing services county, region or postcode.
The main database is StatFin (PxWeb). You choose a statistic, cut it by area and year, view it on screen or export it (for example Excel, CSV or JSON-stat). Tables are updated on most weekdays. Finnish, Swedish and English are available for a large share of the data.
These figures describe groups of people or firms. They are not a list of your competitors’ names. For named companies use Yrityshaku. Health and welfare indicators are often in THL Sotkanet. Interest rates and bank-loan series are on Suomen Pankki.
Practical advice
Write down the question first (for example population aged 25–44 in selected postcodes, or the number of enterprises in a TOL class in Uusimaa). Then open that table in StatFin.
Note the table code and the date you downloaded it when you put the figure in a business plan.
Where to seek advice
The best place to start is Statistics Finland information service: https://stat.fi/en/statistics-finland/contact-information
Email info@stat.fi if you cannot find the right table. Technical questions about the databases: tietokannat@stat.fi. StatFin itself: https://stat.fi/en/statistical-data/database-tables . For turning a table into a business-plan paragraph, book Uusyrityskeskus.
